since I wanted to increase my salesforce skills, I stumbled upon your book.
Since I like to read, I read it.
This way, I ended up at uniquegenius and watched the movies.
Yes, this all resonates very much with me.

However (yes, here is the skeptic… the negativity… the doubt):
I have a strong feeling that most of these techniques and processes might work better in the USA than they do in Europe.

Any experience you could share on that?

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Ries,

Thanks for the comment; which country do you live in in Europe? I don’t think anything here should be terribly different than in Europe.

I’ve had friends and clients in Europe, and while they always have to adapt things to their specific cultures, the principles are the same.

Now if you lived in Zimbabwe, nothing here might apply…

  2. Andrea says:

Aaron, thanks so much for sharing all of your insights. Everything you discussed in the video series truly resonated with me. I love the artwork and the simplicity of your message.

  3. Joanna says:

    Hey Aaron,

Thank you for sharing! I was looking for my purpose for a looooong time what frustrated me a lot. I have find it…I think anyway πŸ˜‰ I have a lot of work to do and I am going to enjoy it! Your great work helped me to be sure about what I found not so long ago… Thank you a lot!

Thank you for this great video that will help me using your “fire, water and green earth” sketch, move me into water and create path for me to move to the “Green Hill” where the money comes! I get so much inspiration to complete and find my unique genius from your videos. With the 7 Steps to finding my purpose, I know will crystallize and get clearer into my purpose. With much gratitude and thanks!

  5. […] Second – you CAN most definitely find that β€œone thing” that underlies all your interests, as I talk about in Video #3: β€œ7 Step Process To Discover Your Purpose”. […]

Hi Aaron, I enjoyed watching all your videos. My niece Lex Garey pointed me here.

I am very much in alignment with your ideas of discovering unique genius and have done similar processes many times in the past, from vision boards, to manifesto, to tree. Through my dreaming I ended up a business owner, on a shoestring, but also learning and practicing all the “myths” u have listed from my business advisor. Now finances are on the edge, so to speak.

I have a tattoo shop (day job) and I am also a painter, writer, theatre director and musician. I have had many ups and downs of course, and my shop has been open for 4+years. Some success, but never solid. I am in the position of “working for my business” as u mentioned. Hours and hours of work and slim if none paychecks. I’ve had many good times, but not consistent good money times.

How do u see this applying to me to improve what I already have and in fact increase to point of not ‘having to’ work all the time. My desires are much much bigger–‘green’ tattoo salon and art gallery, staffed by women, artwork created by women, combine my other strong interests somehow? Any thoughts?

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Shelly,

Did you watch the “Make More Money” video? I see two things that can be helpful to you:

    1) Short-term: Learning more fundamental practices around money and business, to help you make more money from what you’re already doing,

    2) Medium & longer-term: Clarifying your Unique Genius…your purpose and bigger personal mission, what ties together all your interests. It sounds like you have some glimmers here, with the green tattoo salon powered by women…but there’s something even more basic & fundamental here for you around empowering women.

    PS – Lex rocks!!

    shellydax Reply:

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it. I hope to eventually be able to take your course, as soon as money frees up a bit. When will the next one start?

I do have a pretty clear idea of what I want, in fact did the tree exercise today and made 2 pages of notes answering questions like “who do I want to work with?” and “what kind of environment do I want to work in”. That helped a lot.

yes Lex does rock. ( She is young and fiesty and full of hope for her future. Its contagious!

  7. Aaron says:

    Hi Aaron,

Great video. I work in finance right now, but am working on extending what I do through the web and found your videos were really helpful. Specifically, your focus on adding value to your work and your value will (i.e., money coming in) increase. Never really thought about it from this point of view, but it makes sense.

    Looking forward to future videos.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Aaron (nice name) –

All the videos are now up, did you catch them?

  8. Mark Benak says:

Great stuff, Aaron! I am already thinking about how to apply it toward my existing companies as well as new ones.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Awesome Mark!

Did you also see the “Unique Genius Assessment” worksheet from video 1? Definitely grab that one.

  9. Maya says:

    Great video:)

I feel that I am moving up the questions and hovering over incubation:)

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

LOL… hovering is a great place to be, I’m curious to see where you land!

  10. Nate says:

Aaron – again, great stuff! Thanks so much for sharing this content, it’s really wonderful of you to be doing this.

I guess there’s a couple of things that keep holding me back. I haven’t liked working in the corporate environment since I graduated from college in 2001 (I’m 32 now). Forever I’ve been trying to find what it is that interests me for what seems like forever. I’ve gone through multiple jobs and it always leads to the same thing…working in an office is just not for me. I’m fairly clear on that now, although I’m still fine tuning it. But…then there’s this sort of lack of confidence or doubt that always creeps in. Example: Can I really create a business out of this and what would it look like (i.e. I’m interested in it, but are others?). Family is particularly difficult too b/c through this process, which is definitely a big struggle for me, I have yet to really create something tangible in forms of a business, so I don’t want to share too much. I have a website, but only my wife really knows about that. There’s almost this ‘on my own’ reality that I’ve had to get used to and accept, which is ok b/c I can’t expect some magic answer or solution to come from somebody else.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Nate,

I hope you really took the lessons in this video (and the others) to heart.

You create can a business out of your interests,

You can create something that others are interested in,

You CAN’T do that without beginning to share your ideas with others, even in safe and small ways.

Babysteps are wonderful – keep taking them!

You might have seen some comments on here about the coming 90-Day program, but it would be a huge help in walking you through the steps of making this real for yourself and others.

  11. Doug says:

I want you to know how much I’ve enjoyed watching all of your videos. I, like many others, almost feel like you’re speaking directly to me. I find the information you provide to be relevant, inspiring, and directional. Thank you for the time and sharing your gifts. I look forward to defining my purpose, and I appreciate the help.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Doug,

Fantastic, I’m glad the videos have been so helpful! And I am speaking directly to you πŸ™‚

Keep up the great work, and check back when you get more clarity on what you’ve learned about your purpose, or if the coming 90-Day program looks like it could be a help to you but you have questions about it.

    Rock on!

  12. Justin says:

Can’t believe this stuff is free. I am only 20 and everything you have shown so far has helped me immensely.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

Ha, nice Justin! Glad you’re getting an early start on this stuff πŸ™‚ Better now than when you’re 30, 40, 50 or older…

Stay in touch and let me know how relevant it all is to someone of your age. I’d love to hear from you.

  13. Aaron- Great content.. I agree with you, there is ZERO real freedom in the career track, but some people believe a paycheck is the way to go.. The wealthy ones are the founders as you say…

    Best, Brian-

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Amen my brother!

And that’s why I say it’s cool to get the paycheck…just make sure you use that stability and time to make a plan to escape and do your own thing someday.

    Thanks for the comments,

  14. Toshio says:

    The Tree Theory

Unfortunately, none of what you mentioned used for my business model except the tree system.
The tree system is well known to all computer scientists and linguistic people. Computers you use are based on the tree system. Computer theory was created based on the tree system and binary number system many years ago. I forgot the name of person who created the tree system. I am not historian but I know that much.
Likewise, my business model, which is to create the world biggest corporation with the least number of employees, could fit into your tree model. I have roots and trunk already grown from a seed. Recently, one of tree branches grew into new branches. Thereby it created a possibility of having the world biggest corporation.
    Thank you,

  15. Aaron,

Your generosity makes me believe in people again; and the content makes me hopeful and excited! It was really helpful for me to hear about the client of yours that hadn’t really done anything yet – didn’t know her purpose, no business, etc. I am opening up and exploring right now (i.e. trying to choose who to work with – where, etc. (The idea about doing things out of your comfort zone resonates. Time for a seminar about money!) but I’m thinking I want to work with you. You are so generous – and yet so smart ! – to simply show us what you do, what you’re all about – AND..and this is a BIG one for me personally – without a big tacky icky sales pitch at the end. (I mean, are we all stupid enough to believe, that the person is just discounting their sevices just today, and just for us! That always feels so condescending to me) In fact, no sales pitch at all! Here you are just offering real content, real help. For free. Then, if people have some money to spend, they can hire you. If not, you’ve helped people anyway.

Thank you. And your personal responses to everyone just make me happy.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Carolyn,

Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I’m glad that you’re getting so much from the videos too…and I’d love to hear what you think of the new ‘money’ one I just put up.

I’m really enjoying getting everyone’s comments and responding – there are a lot, but not too many to get to πŸ™‚

I believe in you. I know you’re getting ready to break through to the next phase of getting clear on what you want to do!

  16. Trond says:

    Dear Aaron,

I would like to thank you for some great inspiration and advice. The other night I watched all the videos you have made so far and they are excellent! Β Once I started on the first one, I could not stop until I had done all three – so I stayed up until about 2:30 a.m.

Making a complete break from the traditional career path and life, and starting your own business based on pursuing your passions, is a huge step to take for most people.

However, you have done a really great job in structuring the issues and approach for doing exactly that and created some highly inspiring videos. Clearly a lot of deep thought has gone into these. Most importantly, the videos also provide great practical advice on how to actually go about making a change in one’s life. Β Much of the material available on the Web is short or deficient on the latter, and I think the experience from your past career has provided valuable additional insights to what you have created.

I look forward to your next videos!

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Trond,

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m glad the videos are so inspiring to you, and are so practical.

Keep up the great work I know you’re doing, and remember – babysteps πŸ™‚

Looking forward to visiting you guys in Japan sometime!

  17. Alex Wells says:

Aaron, these videos are fantasticly helpful to me. I feel I’m on the right path regarding my purpose and have started toward my business idea but am still trying to clarify my direction and get over some of my fears/misconceptions about what I’m capable of. Your discussions about baby steps resonated with me – rather than berate myself over how much I have to do, I can congratulate myself on every step I’ve taken.
    Thanks again.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

Hi Alex, thanks so much, I can see from your site that you’re a budding Unique Genius!

Hope you got a lot from this video. Here’s a suggestion for you: if you taught a one-hour class,
    1) Who would you teach?
    2) What three things would you teach them?

Go through that exercise and then let me know if you want a next baby step πŸ™‚

And I’m especially glad you’re resonating with the baby steps approach…it’s worked for me, and I HIGHLY recommend them!

    Alex Wells Reply:

Thanks Aaron – this is a great exercise – I’m going to do it this week. The idea is already getting me excited to think up answers.

Terrific Aaron! I can see fresh new growth on a well worn path.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hi Bud,

Thanks my friend! You’re doing some really interesting work too, I can see how we’re aligned in many ways.

I never heard or knew about the different ways to find your purpose until after I found mine. I had no idea there were so many great resources out there like the word you’re doing.

  19. Sasha says:

    Thanks Aaron,
I have been looking into alot of different ideas on soul purpose, or unique genious as you call it. Your videos are great! They are short, clear, and give direction on moving forward. I really appreciate the help you give those of us who are still searching!.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

Thanks Sasha! It’s funny, three-ish years ago, I had NO idea this work was in me, or that it would take this shape. Funny what happens when you do align closely with your soul purpose…

Hope Video 3 here gave you some helpful shifts…

  20. per usual, Great Stuff. Simple/Elegant. Straight Forward. Aligning. Love IT. THANK YOU!

Ha, thanks Joe for your support! We’re getting to be real friends on here πŸ™‚

  21. Neil Harte says:

    Hi Aaron,

I want to thank you very much for all your work. After years as a Sales Director with big corporates, I decided to leave my job and set up on my own. I was tired of living where my work was and being away from my wife and young son, whilst I travel around Europe for thankless organisations.

Whilst I had a relatively good idea what I wanted to do, I was struggling with what would make my business stand out. This week was a revelation when I discovered your work. I have had my eureka moment and I feel confident and excited about the future.

Starting a business is daunting, but I am now confident that I am on a journey of self-fulfillment. I have been inspired and liberated by your work and this is truly an altruistic endeavour.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

Congratulations Neil, and I’m excited to see you on your way here! I’d recommend exploring what you’re most passionate about, and then finding ways to integrate that to your new business & work…and that alone will make you Unique!

Sometimes your differentiation isn’t what you say or do, it’s just…you.

    Cheers πŸ™‚

PS – I think you’ll also get a lot from the “Money Video” that’s coming soon.

  22. Hey Aaron,
Awesome video again dude! I think Step 5 – Sharing, is a huge hurdle for most people trying to live their purpose and create their own business at the same time (I know it was/is for me). Sometimes you don’t even want to tell your closest friends and family, because they simply won’t understand.

Any tips for dealing with that?

For me, I just try to remember that they aren’t trying to shoot me down, but actually trying to protect me from doing something that seems ‘out there’ to them. They worry because they care. Plus there’s no need to rush out and tell everybody you know – look for people who will understand and create a small support group to start with.

And imagining the look on my Mum’s face when I’ve secretly paid off her mortgage with the money from my ‘crazy scheme’ makes it all worthwhile.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

    Hey James,

I think you gave yourself here the exact right advice with remembering they are discouraging you because they want you to be ‘safe’, and to look for supporters πŸ™‚

Building a supportive, trusting community is the foundation of my vision for PebbleStorm, because it makes such a big difference to plug in with people who do get it and want you to succeed!

Even when people don’t seem to get it yet, just keep at it in your determination to find supporters – and you will. Patience here is valuable.

I’ll get into a lot more detail around accepting and sharing (and getting past hesitation, fear & resistance) in the Unique Genius 90-Day Program.

  23. Andy says:

Great videos. I like your ideas. I have spent several years looking, reading, following a number of people talking about finding your passion and starting a business. I have ideas, but don’t know exactly how to put it all together, that is what I like about your approach, easy to do and focused. Looking forward to the next videos. I love cars, and want to get out of my CADD job cubicle farm office and do what I really love. Thanks.

    Aaron Ross Reply:

Great Andy, thanks for joining me here, and I really hope this content helps you take some real steps towards getting out of the cubicle farm!

  24. Lex Garey says:

While I already have a basic concept of my business, this really allowed me to streamline my ideas around my company, which relieved alot of pressure and stress for me.
